So what is Youth Lead, well they state their goal as being to provide students with “real world” leadership experiences. They hope to encourage students to form meaningful relationships between the school, city, county and local businesses of Graham and Young County. They also hope to give this exposure through field and seminars. The head of Youth Lead, Mr.Gordy, stated, “We’re excited to have a new class of Youth Lead who will be able to learn about the community and interact with community members”. Previous member Lawson Marin, a Senior at GHS, quoted, “It was really fun, got to learn about how the school was run and governed”. This was backed-up by GHS Junior Rebekah Gilbertson who quoted that “It felt inspiring to help my community”. She also added that as a member she attended many committees for proposed changes to the school system.
If you wanted to be a part of Youth Lead, then sorry for you as the ship to join has already sailed. All applications to join were to have been turned in by 21st of August. It is also to be noted that some have said that this year’s Youth Lead garnered so many applications from Juniors and Seniors that all of the Sophomore applications were turned down. Some have attributed this to a rise in popularity with the group’s victory last year in changing the dress code of GHS. This year’s Youth Lead is hopeful again for what they can experience, and for what they may hope to achieve in this school year of GHS. Though only time will tell whether this year’s group will be as fruitful as last year’s group of Youth Lead. What is almost certain though is that this year’s group seem to be buzzing, and hope to have their own timbre compared to last year.
