When people think of Christmas they think presents, hot cocoa, candy canes etc., but is this what Christmas is really about? Everybody desperately waits for Christmas to use it as an excuse to finally get a pair of Nike’s that they’ve been wanting, or a really cute sweater that they eye every time they go to the mall. Don’t get me wrong, I love receiving and gifting gifts, maybe a little too much, but it has made the holiday become nothing more than an excuse to be able to get physical items. Christmas, the holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus, is so much more than presents and a time to put up a decorated tree. Statistics show that 93% of people exchange gifts on Christmas but only 74% go hang out with family. Although getting a gift for someone you love is a great way to show them you love them, spending time together with people you love is what makes it all the more merrier. Sometimes we think we’re appreciating someone because we give them something they told us they like, but in reality if it doesn’t come from your heart it means absolutely nothing at all. Christmas is such a magical holiday that is so worthy of being celebrated with the ones we love. Cash and gifts are physical, they come and go but close friends and family are always there for you. There are many things you could do to spend time with family and friends to reconnect and experience the true joy of Christmas. Some of them are getting together and watching your favorite Christmas movies, have a baking competition, or even have a Christmas themed charades game, the possibilities are endless.
