Chicken. One of America’s favorite foods and even one of mine! It could be chicken sandwiches, chicken nuggets, grilled chicken, chicken soup, and on and on. But there is one type of chicken that stands out amongst all the chicken. FRIED CHICKEN! Arguably the best food EVER! This delectable dish is said to be on 74% of menus in America. That’s a lot! But there is something interesting about chicken. If I asked you, “what is your favorite place to get fried chicken?” It’s very likely you have a restaurant pop in your head immediately that has fried chicken you prefer above all others. It’s also very likely there might be another fried chicken serving restaurant that you don’t enjoy very much. Why is this? Isn’t it all chicken?
Of course, all restaurants prepare their chicken differently. Different seasonings, sauces, and cooking can sway the flavor to your taste buds. But I still enjoy hearing people’s very different tastes on their fried chicken.
To hear some different opinions I asked around here at GHS. The head of the English department, Stephanie Talbott, says “My favorite chain restaurant for chicken is Chick-Fil-A. I love their chicken sandwiches!” After that interview, I could already tell that Chick-Fil-A was going to be a popular contender amongst the students and staff. “I love the fried chicken tendies at United Deli because they are finger lickin’ good.” says Maria Waller, one of our lovely Spanish teachers. Next I saw the Assistant Principal, Necia Marin, who said “Pop’s chicken. Not Popeye’s but my dad has the best chicken ever.”
Throughout these interviews I heard a lot that people prefer Chick Fil A for the sauces or others prefer home food for the unique prep. So the opinions aren’t always only on the chicken but the overall experience.
The results of the poll I took are that… RAISING CANE’S is the most popular fried chicken restaurant and following close behind is CHICK-FIL-A! These results surprised me as I thought that Chick-Fil-A would win by far but I can see why it might not have. When I think of fried chicken Cane’s pops into my head, not Chick-Fil-A even though fried chicken is exactly what they serve. It seemed Chick-Fil-A just isn’t connected to fried chicken in people’s heads.
Overall this was a fun experiment and I loved hearing about all of the different opinions. Now if you are a fried chicken lover, which you SHOULD be, then you now know where you can find the best of it.
