“VOTE PROP A & B!” Signs with these words are all around town! If you haven’t seen them do you even live in Graham? These are two new propositions that GISD has offered for a $38 million bond election. The official early voting dates were selected to be April 22nd-30th. Although the early voting dates are in April the final election day isn’t until May 4th. There are 2 options for this huge change that can both bring a great benefit. Prop A gives the opportunity to expand Pioneer elementary to be able to serve Pk-2nd graders. This proposal would also include adding minor renovations to Crestview elementary to serve grades 3-5. This would mean the woodland elementary school building would be completely demolished excluding the gymnasium. The idea of demolishing woodland is a good one since the building has been around for a while, however the gymnasium could still be used for practices and games for small local little league sports. This can bring benefits such as helping parents who have to commute their children to multiple different schools wouldn’t have to deal with that anymore, kids are exposed to a bigger variety of age groups in students, and the school board would heave an increase in money due to not having to pay for maintenance on Woodland elementary anymore. The projected date for this to be completed is August 2026, Which is a while from now so it’s important to think how it will benefit/affect you as well as the community. Prop B is a student multipurpose facility. This will be constructed behind the field house located at Graham high school since the district already owns the property. The facility will be used by many extracurriculars such as Band, Dance, Cheer, soccer, softball, baseball, track, football, summer strength and conditioning and 7v7’s. This is greatly beneficial to many students participating in any of these activities. Students that have morning and after school practices when the sun isn’t out anymore could have a warmer place to practice not too far from Newton field. Not to mention also the people going to games/meets supporting the players so they can stay cold in the warmer weather due to shade and breeze and vice versa. The estimated date for this to be completed is in August of 2025. Both of these options have many benefits to multiple different people. It is important to look into what you as a person would like to do and benefit off of and vote for that prop. Early voting starts in a couple of months, make sure to vote!
