As the school year starts club and organization student Presidents and Captains are getting to work. Their schedules fill up as meetings, sports games, and events kick off immediately. We wanted to get a little insight on these diligent leaders and how they juggle their responsibilities.
Rylee Ranger would be described as a QUEEN by many here at GHS. She is the Co-President of Student Council with Hallie Beth Gough who we also got to interview. Without StuCo there would be less fun and organization around the school. That sounds like a big job to carry then right? “It is,” Rylee confirms. We met up with this hardworking queen to see how she does it all. We wondered who inspires her the most and she said “Probably Mr. Gordy. He is such a queen! He does a really good job leading the whole school without being mean and bratty.” We definitely thought this was one of our most unique responses and one of our favorites. Mr. Gordy isn’t bratty but he definitely is BRAT.
“I joined the student council as a freshman and I was super involved and then my sophomore year I was a committee leader and then last year I was the parliamentarian. So I basically just worked my way up to Co-President and I think all of my previous experience in stuco helped me be elected” Rylee told us after we asked how she got to where she is today. This is also good advice for people trying to work up to a higher position. Stay involved and keep pushing yourself.
Lastly, we were wondering what was special about Student Council to Rylee. Why would she want to work so hard for this? “Oh my gosh, I love Student Council! It’s like my passion. I love helping in the school and I love getting to make the school a good place for everyone to enjoy dances and be involved in all that we do. I love just watching everyone get excited about it and I like to make changes that I want to see for the better of the group.” I think anyone could be sure that there isn’t a better Co-President out there than Rylee. She doesn’t just boss around but she CARES. Rylee for President of the United States 2024…?
Hallie Beth Gough basically RUNS this school. Being the Co-President of Student Council with Rylee Ranger and also the Captain of Blue Crew, school spirit is in her hands. “I’ve been involved in Student Council for all four years of high school and Blue Crew since last year when we could sign up” Hallie Beth tells us. Just like Rylee, Hallie Beth has worked her way up to be in these positions she is in today and it’s inspiring, at least for me!
Now, someone has to be on Hallie Beth’s mind when she is leading. “Mrs. Pip definitely inspires me the most. Watching Pip be in charge of a bunch of organizations challenges me to also be a leader.” Everyone at GHS knows that Mrs. Pip is WICKED AWESOME so it’s not surprising Hallie Beth feels inspired by her, especially since she is awesome too.
Two large organizations, a lot of spirit, high expectations. How does Hallie do it all? “It’s definitely difficult but with the two best sponsors Mrs. Shook and Mrs. Carrico, it definitely is easier” Hallie Beth shares with us. It’s easy to lead when you have good backing and I know Hallie is thankful to have that.
These two queens inspire so many here at GHS and work so hard for us! I loved this chance to have some insight on how they do it all and I hope you learned from them too. It definitely isn’t hard to follow leaders like this.
