Introduction to Jaydes:
Jayden Yen Dumont, better known as “Jaydes,” was born February 24, 2006, in Florida. He is a nineteen-year-old rapper currently in jail. His father was an R&B artist, so Jayden grew passionate about music. In 2020, Jayden began releasing music under the name “evvls”. Jayden would go by many names in his career, such as “evvls”, “jaydes”, and “mandy”. Jayden is an extremely influential figure in the pluggnb music scene.
Legal Troubles:
On November 3, 2024, a warrant was issued for Jayden’s arrest. It came out that Jayden allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend with a box cutter after she denied his advances. Jayden was on the run for a week until he was found at a Denny’s, having a mental episode at three in the morning. Jayden was arrested and charged with attempted murder. Jayden’s charge later changed to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and he was given a bond of $10,000. He later got out on bond but was arrested again in New Jersey for violating his bond conditions.

!?:
“!?” is Jayden’s debut EP, which was released on December 31, 2021. The EP consists of five tracks, which are all good. My favorite on this EP is either “Intro” or “Passive Aggression”. “Intro” features some amazing vocals performed by Jayden. “Hearts” was my favorite on this project for a while. I think “Passive Aggression” is one of Jayden’s best songs and it’s impressive that it came so early into his career.
Track Ratings:
Intro-10/10
Sick-8.2/10
Scam Likely-7.6/10
Passive Aggression w/Yung Fazo-10/10
Hearts-10/10
Overall: 9.1/10
Romanticism:
Romanticism is a four-track EP released on April 30, 2022. The EP features some angelic vocals, acoustic guitar, and heavy themes of being in love. Jayden has some lovely vocals on this EP, especially on tracks like “4u” and “Convenience”. My only real complaint with this project is the length. I think this EP is way too short, as it’s only four tracks long, and two are around 30 seconds long. I think “Poison” would’ve fit really well on this EP. My favorite tracks on this EP are “4u” and “Convenience”. I really like Jayden’s soft vocals over the acoustic guitar on “4u,” and I think the instrumental is amazing on “Convenience”.
Track Ratings:
4u-10/10
Tylenol-9.1/10
Migraine-9/10
Convenience-10/10
Overall:9.5/10
Heartpacing:
“Heartpacing” is a nine-track EP released on August 14, 2022. This is my personal favorite project by Jayden. My favorite track on this project is “Drama Queen”. I think Jayden has a really good voice, and I think this project showcases it really well. I really like “Who Can I Trust,” which features Rich Amiri. “Patience” has a really cool beat, and it’s pretty catchy. The song “Hateinterlude” is really catchy, and I love how his voice sounds. I really like the softness of his voice and the tone in which he sings the lyrics.

Sativa:
“Sativa” is a three-track EP released on November 8, 2022. I love every song on this EP, but three songs is way too short for a project. “Tell Me” is one of my favorite songs by Jayden. It is really catchy. “Cartier” is also great. “Gelato” is the weakest on the EP in my opinion, but it’s still a pretty good song. It just happens to be the worst of the three, but by no means is it a bad song.
Track Ratings:
Gelato-8.8/10
Tell Me-10/10
Cartier-9.5/10
Overall:9.4/10
Ghetto Cupid:
“Ghetto Cupid” is really diverse as it features tracks with elements of shoegaze, pluggnb, and plugg. The intro track “Rose” is a shoegaze song, and it is really good. It is Jayden’s most popular song to date. This album was released on August 16, 2023. Although this album is not Jayden’s best work in my opinion, I still love a lot of tracks on it, and it is definitely far from his worst. My favorite track on this project is “<3”, it is a great song with some beautiful lyrics. The song has two parts, and I love both of them. The beat switch is so good. “<3” is one of my favorite songs of all time. So even though this project isn’t my favorite, it still has some great tracks on it.

Bipolar:
“Bipolar” is a drastic change of pace for Jayden. It’s a pretty good EP in my opinion, but it’s so different from his prior studio EPs that I can see why old fans may not like it. I really like the track “Disassembled”, the track samples “Every Breath You Take” by “The Police”. I think the sample is done really well, and it adds a lot to the song. The lyrics to this song are a bit disturbing upon hearing about the legal situation that Jayden finds himself in, but I do think his vocals on this track are pretty good, and overall, it’s a good song aside from the shocking lyrics. “Take You Away” is another really good track on this project. It is the opening track, and it is really catchy. This EP was released on May 8, 2024, and is less than 10 minutes long. “Pixxa” is the most popular song on the project, and I find it to be pretty funny, but I don’t necessarily like it.
Track Ratings:
Take You Away-9.6/10
Sloth-9.5/10
I Know What’s Going to Happen to Me-8.1/10
Disassembled-9.8/10
Insomnia-8.9/10
Pixxa-7.1/10
Overall:8.8/10
Count Up Dracula:
Count Up Dracula is Jayden’s most polarizing body of work. The project is really punk-focused, and it is a huge change of pace from his music that was released prior. I think the best song on this project is “Junkie”, but similar to “Disassembled”, the lyrics are very distrubing after you hear about the legal situation. The music video for this track is even worse due to his case. I don’t know if he was just trying to be edgy or if he was mentally disturbed, but the music video is disturbing. I think there are some good moments on this project, and at certain times I feel like I can see the vision, but I think there are a lot more instances where it doesn’t work for me. I don’t hate this album as much as a lot of other people do, but I do think it’s far from his best work.

Panic:
“Panic” is easily my least favorite project by Jayden. It was released on October 31, 2024, and it is another punk rock EP. I think there are some good moments on this EP, such as the verse on “Cry”. The verse on this song is really good, but I am not a big fan of the chorus because of the way his vocals sound. I think the worst track is “Die”. He does this weird yelling thing on it, which is funny but not something I want to listen to in my free time. I think the best song on this project is “Lowlife”. I don’t like this project, but it’s not the worst thing in the world. I think that the best songs on this EP are worse than some of the worst songs on his older EPs.
Track Ratings:
Stan-5.7/10
P*ss-5.4/10
Babies-7.7/10
Die-4.6/10
Cry-8.1/10
Lowlife-8.4/10
Overall:6.6/10
My Verdict on Jaydes:
I think that Jayden, unfortunately, is guilty. I wanted it not to be true, not because he’s one of my favorite artists, but because I didn’t want it to be true that a girl went through that. What Jayden did is inexcusable, and I think anyone who tries to defend him because they like his music is weird. There is no problem with liking his music; I listen to him all the time, but that doesn’t make him a good person. I think it is completely normal to no longer enjoy his music because of this, and I think continuing to listen is also completely normal. I do hope he is getting the help he needs and will change for the better.
