With the new 2025 school year starting, it has brought along some new rule changes. One of these changes affects how your college period will work. In the past few years, if you didn’t have a college class to go to, you could sign in, then leave. With the recent changes, you have to sign in and stay. This change has sparked considerable controversy, so we interviewed some dual-credit students to gather their perspectives on the matter.
During one of the many college periods there are this year, I walked around and interviewed some students. During these interviews, I got a variety of responses to the question, “What are your thoughts on not being able to leave during these periods?” These are the answers I received, Norah Gardiner replied with, “I think that if we did it years before, why do we have to stop due to the past kids?” I also got an answer that was slightly the same from Jacob Alexander, being, “I understand why we stay, and that is to keep us accounted for, but it would be nice to leave.” But when I walked to a different table and asked the same question, Chris Reyes said, “I don’t care, because we can bring our own things to do and keep us entertained.” and Tyler Bryant answers with, “It really doesn’t bother me, you just have to find a table with people you know and talk to them.”
These were just some of the answers I got from the dual-credit students. You can see many people have very mixed feelings about not being able to leave during their college period, I do agree with all of these answers, because yes you can find a table and talk to them and find certain games to keep you occupied, but then again it would be nice to leave once and a while a get breakfast or lunch if they missed meals.
