With the 2025-2026 school year being in full swing, StuCo has officially started. With the first meeting scheduled for August 21st, the beginning of a new StuCo year has commenced. With every grade having tons and tons of students in StuCo, we went about interviewing some of them to see what StuCo has planned for this year.
Mrs. Carrico has been the organizer for the Student Council for numerous years now. So we went to her room to get her views on StuCo and where she sees it going. We asked her what she would like to see StuCo do, and her response was, “I would like us to have more successful fundraisers.” We also asked her how a student could join the Student Council, and she told us, “Just come by the room and scan the QR code by the door.” Along with these questions, we also asked the President, Jack Page, and the Vice President, Alejandra Castillo. The questions we asked them consisted of: “How has this year with StuC o been so far?” and “What are you looking forward to this year?” They gave us almost the same answers. Jack says, “It has been good, but it started very busy.” They both stated that they look forward to all the new members and that they want the members to be more involved.
During the interview, we asked them what they were most excited about, and they had the same answer: “Adopt A Child.” Adopt A Child is one of the largest events held at Graham High School. StuCo members are sent to classrooms to ask for donations so that the members can go and purchase some of the things they need or want for Christmas. StuCo then throws a party and brings their child, whom they “adopted,” and lets them open their Christmas presents. They also mentioned that they were excited for the haunted house. Every year, the student council team hosts a haunted house within the high school. With a high number of students attending each year, I can see why they are so excited for it. The cost for this ghostly tour is usually around $5 to $10 per person per time.
The Student Council team has big plans for this school year, so it is not hard to see what makes the members so excited for the new year. The StuCo team is expecting big things this school year, so make sure to look out and prepare to be amazed at the plans they have.
