Many new teachers have been welcomed to Graham ISD this school year, and Dawna Gage, a freshman biology teacher, is among them. Mrs. Gage attended Tarleton State University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. While in college, Mrs. Gage considered pursuing a degree in nursing or criminal justice, but ultimately decided against the idea due to the long hours and intense atmosphere it brought. After graduating, she began teaching and coaching.
Mrs. Gage has been in the education field for nine years and has worked in many school districts, including Crestview Elementary in Graham, Eastland, Texas; Gorman, Texas; Denton, Texas; and Marin, California. She has described Graham High School as being “welcoming, fun, and exciting”. Although she wishes she had more time to connect with her fellow teachers and staff members, she considers GHS to be her favorite school where she has taught. To her, the best part of teaching is “whenever a kid lights up with an ‘a-ha’ moment, showing that they understand something”.
A piece of advice Mrs. Gage would give any of her students is, “Don’t sell yourself short, for there are bigger things after high school, don’t limit yourself. God has a plan for you.”
