Mr. Gordy, a man we called principal for many years, has been a big help in guiding and leading Graham High School. However, he is no longer frequently seen in the halls of Graham High School but has moved to a different position. The students of GHS are curious as to what his current role is in Graham ISD.
His journey began when he received a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology and Biology at Angelo State University, his Master’s in Educational Leadership from Midwestern State University, and his Superintendent certification from the University of Texas at Tyler.
During his early career as a teacher and coach in Graham ISD, he found a calling to serve students and teachers. He then served as the Graham High School Principal for 10 years. He eventually moved on from GHS High School Principal to the Chief Student Services Officer for GISD between the 2025 school year in July.
Mr. Gordy focuses on the Special Programs Department, School Safety & Security, policies for the district, and the GISD Counseling program. His greatest challenge so far is learning the ins and outs of his new role. For him to be a campus and district leader, it is his job to empower Graham ISD educators to provide excellent educational opportunities for our students. Mr. Gordy’s main priorities for his new role are ensuring that each student served through Graham ISD Special Programs receives access to a free, appropriate public education. His main goal this year is to learn and to lead the educators he works with in improving the student outcomes in Graham ISD. Mr. Gordy wants to make sure he is leading well, empowering, and equipping Graham’s educators to serve the students well. Mr. Gordy says, “We have a great team of educators who work tirelessly to provide excellent educational opportunities to our students!”
Joe Gordy also works on ensuring that our schools have a safe and supportive environment for Graham ISD’s students. They have started off the school year by focusing on training the students on how to respond in a variety of emergencies. With Mr. Gordy also being the Chief of Policy, he ensures that the district is legally compliant. He also supports our counselors and ensures that they have the resources they need.
He loves being an educator because in every educational role he has had, he has been able to impact student outcomes. His day is made when he can assist a student, or in his new role, when he is able to help other professionals make sure the students’ needs are met, and assist in preparing the student for success!
Mr. Gordy’s advice for students is, “Show up! Being present and on time are employable skills! Once you engage in class, you will find your pathway to success because you have a great network of educators in Graham ISD!”
