GHS Student Section
It’s officially Friday Night Lights season here at Graham High School, a time filled with excitement and energy. Instead of being packed with students cheering, the stands have felt half empty and quiet. The student section should be more than just a place to sit; it needs to be a place that radiates school pride. Instead of going to games just to watch the game, let’s dive deeper into ways we can make our student section represent GHS in the best way possible. By incorporating our dress-up themes, celebrations, and chants, we can make the student section a place everyone wants to be.
One of the biggest ways the student section could improve is by bringing more energy to the stands. Too many times, the cheers fade after the first quarter. When the stands stay loud throughout the whole game, it will truly show that the students are there to support and motivate.
A big part of a good student section is strong leadership. Currently, we have Blue Crew to hype up our stands. Students could also help by starting chants or cheering up in the stands. Chants are the heart of any student section, but they can often get repetitive. We could prevent this by introducing new chants to keep the energy fresh. This can show off not only school spirit but also creativity from the students.
Small rewards could also get a crowd going. Students will cheer louder or more often if they know they can get a reward for doing so. We could reward creative signs or just students with the best energy that night. Over time, students may start to realize this and will continue to support them to the fullest.
Building long-term traditions is also key to helping the student section become memorable. Whether it’s a chant for every touchdown or first down, traditions keep school spirit alive for years to come. Introducing the traditions to new students and letting them bring traditions too could be a great addition to our stands.
Overall, a strong student section doesn’t just help the players but brings the entire school and community together. A crowd that works together creates an atmosphere that everyone will remember. GHS has the potential to bring spirit, pride, and memories to our football games; all it takes is commitment and dedication to making it happen.
