What is Red Ribbon Week?
Red Ribbon Week is a nationwide drug prevention campaign held annually from October 23rd to 31st. It is known to be one of the oldest and largest campaigns of its kind in the U.S. This event honors the memory of DEA Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who was murdered by drug traffickers in Mexico in 1985 while he was trying to fight drug crimes. This week is used to raise awareness about the negative impact of drug use and to encourage everyone to live drug-free lives.
Dressing up!
Why do we dress up?
While traditionally, wearing a red ribbon is a symbol for this campaign, schools use dress-up days as a fun way to engage with students and get involved with this annual event. These dress-up days not only promote Red Ribbon Week, but they can also be a way to have an overall way of spreading school spirit throughout Graham ISD campuses for us to come together and do what is right.
