Graham High School will have its Red Ribbon Week from October 27th through the 30th. It is an annual campaign in the United States, originating in 1985 as a tribute to DEA special agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. It is now the largest and longest-running program to raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and violence. Schools, communities, and other organizations participate in Red Ribbon Week by hosting events that promote the campaign and a drug-free lifestyle. Graham High School will have “dress-up days” for the week that were voted on by the community.
Monday, October 27th, is “We’re Cookin’ Without Drugs.” Students and staff are encouraged to dress up with the theme Soccer Moms vs. BBQ Dads. Soccer Moms are often depicted with sports attire, tote bags, Stanleys, and sunglasses, while BBQ Dads are shown wearing aprons, hats, drawn-on beards, and grilling utensils like tongs or spatulas.
Tuesday, October 28th, is “Memes are Funny, Drugs are Not.” Dress up as your favorite internet memes! Popular memes from platforms like TikTok, as well as well-known characters like Success Kid, are seen around the school.
Wednesday, October 29th, is Generation Wars. Students are supposed to dress in accordance with the specific generation assigned to their grade level. Freshmen are urged to dress up as babies, Sophmores as kids, Juniors as mid-life crisis, and Seniors as senior citizens.
Thursday, October 30th, is “Say Boo To Drugs” by wearing your Halloween costume!
Though Graham High School does not have school on Friday, October 31st, anyone who attends the football game can dress in white to support Whiteout against Brock.
