As a first-year student at Graham High School, I came into the homecoming pep rally expecting the kind of high-energy spectacle Texas schools are famous for. Unfortunately, the event fell short of that legendary spirit. While it was certainly “entertaining” and well-organized, the entire production felt overly scripted, leaving little room for the announcers’ personality or spontaneity. With all the lights on, the atmosphere resembled a mandatory assembly rather than a spirited celebration.
The live band was a definite highlight, showcasing genuine student talent—but their time on stage was limited to a single song. While the rock version of the national anthem was unique, it might have been better suited for a different occasion. A broader selection of background music could have helped maintain the crowd’s energy between segments.
Overall, the pep rally lacked the excitement and audience engagement that make such events memorable. The crowd remained subdued, and the homecoming court games felt awkward in the absence of enthusiasm. In the future, dimming the lights or even incorporating glow sticks in school colors could go a long way toward creating a more dynamic, spirited environment. Adding show lights or colorful string lights could help transform the gym from a well-lit stage into a true celebration of school pride.
