In previous years, back in the 2000’s, Graham High School had a student section called “The Pit”. It was known as the rowdiest, the loudest, and most energetic part of the stands. Students knew how to bring the energy up, even if their team was down points. Every student stood up the whole time, cheering on their fellow student athletes. After a couple of years, it got shut down. Now, we need your help to bring it back!
Coach Walls, who runs both the cheer squad and Blue Crew, is putting in her time and effort to try to bring this back! Cheer has now come up with themes for district basketball games, in hopes of getting the crowd and students more involved.
Student section now
The Graham High School student section is weak! There is no energy, no hype, barely any chants, and no impact overall. Yes, there are very rare moments when some students may yell chants, and others join along. This should be a normal all-time thing. People sit in the student section thinking it’s embarrassing to do anything. Cheerleaders are always at the games, cheering on our team that you should be cheering on as well. People spend their time constantly judging the ones who are cheering, instead of trying to build an enjoyable atmosphere in the gym. Now, the question is, what is the student section to you? This needs to be changed.
Student Section “The Pit” Back Then
Taking a look back and communicating with individuals who got to experience “The Pit” all had fascinating things to say about it. It was known to be “The highlight of the game”. Students are nonstop cheering, being loud, dressing up, and being there to support their team. If you were in the student section, it was a basic requirement to be standing the whole time and be engaged with the game. The reason for it getting shut down was because of how overly hyped and crazy the students would get for their team.
Build Up Our Student Section
Here’s how you can help bring back “The Pit.” The basketball themes for 2026 are a great way to get involved by dressing up and going all out with what you have. You can check the Graham Cheerleading Instagram page for the themes. Then, making signs is a great way to show your support and your love for the team or certain players. Cheering or chanting in general builds up the atmosphere and slowly convinces everyone to be more affiliated with the game.
Overall, please show up for your team with the energy they deserve. Let’s bring back the enjoyable atmosphere we yearn for! We are here to bring back “The Pit”!
