I’ve always wondered how holidays affect the economy. How prices move up and down around times like Christmas and Thanksgiving. Valentine’s Day is no different. Everyone knows people buy others presents and other things like chocolates for others on Valentine’s Day. Holidays where people purchase specific things boost the economy significantly for certain items. For example, Thanksgiving would boost selling on food, and Christmas would be more focused on selling toys and gifts for others. Some companies thrive on holidays by making holiday-specific items to sell, such as Christmas ornaments or valentines day teddy bears and chocolates. Last year in 2025, 27.5 billion dollars were estimated to be spent on candies, flowers, and dining, averaging 188$ per household, which is surprisingly lower than usual. It opens your awareness to how much money is really spent on days like valentines day. This years valentines day is estimated to be a record 29.1 billion dollars on candies, flowers, and dining. Talking more about the bigger picture of the U.S., holidays like these boost the economy majorly by pushing more money flow and stimulating spending and prices of such items. Most holidays have this effect. In my opinion, considering valentines day isnt one of the most popular holidays, i dont think that much should be spent on that day, but that is my personal opinion.
